During the summer months, maintaining clear skin can be difficult. With heat and dirt, breakouts are almost inevitable! We spoke with New York-based dermatologist, Dr. Whitney Bowe, about avoiding breakouts to achieve clean and flawless looking skin, just like Jessica Alba! Keep reading for the valuable tips!

It’s totally not fair how perfect Jessica Alba‘s skin always looks! Avoiding breakouts in this summer heat is not easy but we spoke to dermatologist, Dr. Bowe about the steps we can take to help prevent blemishes during these months. Read below for her expert advice on the Do’s and Dont’s of summer skin care.

Jessica Alba’s Clear Skin — Expert Dermatologist Tips To Avoiding Breakouts

We are so thankful to Dr. Bowe for explaining how we can avoid breaking out in the summer heat! She recommends:

Keep pores from getting clogged by cleansing with a product that contains salicylic acid, such as Clean & Clear Advantage Daily Soothing Acne Cleanser. The salicylic acid dissolves the cells that tend to stick together in the pores, letting them dislodge and preventing breakouts. If you can get to your dermatologist's office once a month for a chemical peel, it can work wonders. The next best thing is to exfoliate twice a week using a scrub.

Ever wonder which makeup products would allow coverage without clogging your pores? Dr. Bowe let us know exactly which products to look out for!

Reach for a tinted BB cream, a daily moisturizer with SPF, or a lightweight, oil-free foundation. Look for words like "non-comedogenic" or "non-acnegenic," meaning it won't cause breakouts. Try to avoid heavy or creamy foundations that will clog pores and look streaky if you sweat. Just as important as what makeup you wear is making sure you clean it off completely before going to bed! Even if you're too tired to stand by the sink and cleanse, just keep some Clean & Clear Makeup Dissolving Facial Cleansing Wipes by your bed to make sure you hit the pillow with a clean face.

Another thing to be conscious of is the products you want to steer clear of during the summer months:

Beware of anything expired, or any tubes that have sat in a hot car for more than a few hours. I always see a handful of patients who come to me right at the start of summer with a rash after using a sunscreen that they saved from the summer prior. Nine times out of 10 the rash is not a true allergy to the sunscreen but rather, a reaction to a product that has broken down over time, increasing the risk of irritation.

Thanks to Dr. Bowe for offering this great advice to avoid breakouts this summer! Will YOU use her valuable tips? Let us know, HollywoodLifers!
