Dr. Chase’s Do’s and Dont’s Of Teeth Whitening
Do’s –
When it comes to foods, certain things help to remove bacteria that cause plaque which hardens into a yellowish tartar if not brushed away soon enough. Dr. Chase explains that crunchy fruits and vegetables are best to eat because they function as an abrasive scrub for your teeth. These foods also stimulate the production of saliva, which helps to keep plaque from forming. Some examples of these foods include apples, cauliflower, carrots, and celery.
Dr. Chase also explains that strawberries and oranges are both useful for polishing teeth. Rubbing an orange peel or a strawberry over your teeth and then washing out your mouth with water will get your noticeable whiter teeth after a few months!
Another helpful tip is to eat dairy products such as yogurt, milk and cheese because they contain a lactic acid which may help protect teeth against decay. Hard cheeses not only help to whiten teeth, but they remove food particles as well!
Dont’s –
As far as things to avoid, it's important to stay away from stain-causing foods and substances as much as possible. It is good to remember that any food which causes a stubborn laundry stain can stain teeth, too. A great way to prevent staining is to brush your teeth or at least rinse your mouth with water after consuming these foods. Some of the foods you should avoid are coffee, tea, blueberries, red wine, soy sauce, tobacco, and soda.
"Brightening your appearance by creating a healthy smile is not as daunting a task as people think," says Chase. "It is an extremely important factor in ones overall health and it should not be overlooked."
