Theatergoers heard a ‘loud scream,’ as an unidentified actor injured his foot and was rushed to the hospital.

When it first hit Broadway in early 2011, Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark made national headlines after several of its actors suffered debilitating injuries; more than two years later, just when it seemed as though every kink had been worked out, tragedy struck the musical once again.

During the Aug. 15 performance of the high-flying spectacle, an actor — whose name is not being released — was rushed to the hospital after his right ankle became caught in a hydraulic stage list, authorities tell New York’s Daily News. The incident happened around 9 p.m.

Though patrons of the show didn’t know exactly what was happening right away, they knew something was wrong when they heard the actor’s screams from backstage.

“All of a sudden there was a loud scream,” one man Andre St. Clare, told the paper.

And in case the scream wasn’t enough to tell theatergoers something had gone horribly wrong, a black curtain was dropped over the stage while paramedics assisted the actor. The curtain reportedly remained there for 10 minutes.

The rest of that evening’s performance was canceled.

There is some good news, though, as the Daily News reports that the unnamed actor will not be losing his foot as a result of the horrific mishap.

Our thoughts are with the actor, and we’re wishing him a speedy recovery.
