A tragic and horrifying episode in California came to an end on August 10 when alleged murderer and kidnapper James DiMaggio was shot and killed by the FBI, and his captor Hannah Anderson was found healthy and alive. And no one is happier about that than Hannah’s father, Brett Anderson.
Brett Anderson, whose daughter was allegedly kidnapped and whose wife and son were allegedly murdered by James DiMaggio, is going through an unimaginable overflow of emotion on August 11, a day after DiMaggio was killed and his daughter Hannah Anderson was safely rescued.
Brett Anderson ‘Elated’ That Hannah Anderson Has Been Rescued
Brett is reportedly elated that his 16-year-old daughter was found alive by a law enforcement team in the Idaho wilderness, and the joy he feels in anticipation to reuniting with Hannah is immeasurable. “He was very relieved and very excited and looking forward to being reunited with his daughter,” San Diego Sheriff William Gore told Fox 19.
After a manhunt kicked into full gear on August 9, an FBI tactical unit tracked DiMaggio and eventually shot and killed him. Hannah was then found nearby. “Hannah Anderson was located with DiMaggio,” Gore explained. “She appears well, was rescued and will be transported to a hospital.”

However, Hannah’s father is also experiencing an unthinkable sort of bittersweetness. Of course he is overjoyed to have his daughter back, but we cannot forget that his wife and eight-year-old son were found dead in a fire in DiMaggio’s home east of San Diego on August 4.
“I am nervous, excited and saddened for my wife and son and worried what my daughter has been through,” Brett said in a text to CNN after Hannah’s rescue. “It’s now healing time. Keep us in your prayers.”
We are at least glad that Brett will be reunited with part of his family, and that this horrific episode has finally come to an end. We will surely keep him, Hannah, and the Anderson’s family and friends in our hearts.
