A bunch of (admittedly good) commercials enjoyed the only ratings increase this Wednesday night, as all other programs were left to best hope for “holding steady.”
CBS’ Greatest Super Bowl Commercials special drew 9.9 million total viewers — its largest audience since 2010 — while scoring a 2.1 rating, up a tenth year-over-year.
Wednesday’s next-best performers were American Idol (holding steady week-to-week with 15.6 mil/5.4) and Supernatural (up a few viewers to 2.28 mil, while matching its previous 0.9 rating).
ABC’s Neighbors absorbed the night’s biggest hit, plunging 18 and 20 percent to 5.25 mil/1.6, leading out of a Middle rerun. Similarly, Suburgatory (4.9 mil/1.8) dropped 20 and 18 percent with a Modern Family repeat in front of it.
Over on NBC, Whitney (3.6 mil/1.3) was down 12 percent and a tenth, Guys With Kids (2.9 mil/1.1) fell 27 and 15 percent and SVU (6.4 mil/1.7) dropped 24 and 19 percent. Chicago Fire cooled 10 percent to 7.23 mil/2.0 while scoring the 10 o’clock win over Nashville/CSI repeats.
The CW’s Arrow (3 mil/0.9) shed a handful of viewers and dipped two tenths.
