After weeks and weeks of ignoring each other, ‘American Idol’ judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey finally acknowledged each other on the April 17 episode. Then Nicki called Mariah ‘sir’ — what the heck?
It was diva week on the April 17 episode of American Idol and the claws finally came out between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. There has literally been no drama between the two since the audition episodes, mainly because they have not even acknowledged each other. But they finally interacted and it was awkward to say the least.
Mariah Carey & Nicki Minaj Fight — Finally Some Interaction
If you got a drink of water, you would have missed it, but it was exciting to see the action between the frenemies. It all started after Kree Harrison sang “She Talks to Angels" by The Black Crowes.
Mariah said she loves her voice but that she felt that she was holding back a little bit. Nicki said she thought it was because she was wearing high heels.
Nicki disagreed with Mariah, saying: “That was the best performance of the night, by far.” But then Mariah said, ”You don't really disagree with me…” and Nicki persisted that she did and that she would explain why.
“I disagree with your disagreement,” Mariah snapped back. Then Nicki responded with the kicker: ”Simmer down, sir.”
But then later, after Candice Glover sang Mariah and Whitney Houston‘s song “When You Believe,” Nicki was raving about Mariah’s talent. She said she used to listen to that song and cry, because she believed every word Mariah was singing. That’s actually nice!
Nicki Vs. Mariah — Adding Excitement To The Show
I’m not even sure what to think about this little spat between the judges but I think the whole point of the judging panel is to have a conversation and sometimes it’s best to have disagreements and different opinions. I think it helps the contestants as long as they stay focused.
At least it brought a little excitement to the show. Although the girl’s voices are amazing, the large amount of slow songs is making the show a bit boring.
