Summer may be fast approaching, but the good people of Mystic Falls are about to experience a serious chill. The May 9 episode of The Vampire Diaries, ominously titled “The Walking Dead,” will find some dearly (and not-so-dearly) departed characters returning to the land of the living — “some with good intentions and some bent on revenge.”
According to The CW’s official description of the episode, the ghosts’ arrival is coupled with a “violent wind storm” that knocks out power in the town. That’s right, as if ghosts weren’t terrifying enough, Elena (Nina Dobrev) and friends will have to face them in the dark.
Which Dead Characters Are Returning As Ghosts?
Considering how many beloved characters The Vampire Diaries has lost over the years, there’s practically an endless list of possible returners to choose from — and that’s just how I like it.
Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) is obviously someone we’d all like to see again, along with Jenna (Sara Canning) and Alaric (Matt Davis). Plus, there’s always Lexi (Arielle Kebbel) and Anna (Malese Jow), who have kept busy in their afterlives by hosting The Vampire Diaries “Re-Hash.” And who could forget dear, sweet Vicki (Kayla Ewell)?

1. Caroline (Candice Accola) tries to “distract” Elena before graduation day, but apparently Elena has a “new obsession” she can’t seem to shake.
2. Someone is attacking patients at the hospital — again — so Sheriff Forbes turns to Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) for help.
3. Bonnie (Kat Graham) is more determined to destroy Silas than ever, and she tries to “force” Katherine to help her. (Yeah, because Kat loves being told what to do.)
