The clean-shaven killer will claim his final victims this summer. Are you ready to say goodbye?
Confirming reports that surfaced earlier this year, Showtime announced April 18 that the upcoming eighth season of Dexter will be its last. Season eight will pick up six months after the events of last season’s shocking finale, and Dexter (Michael C. Hall) will still be “managing life as a dead, brother, and a serial killer.” And just when she thought she was in the clear, Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) is confronted by a “mysterious woman” with knowledge about her brother’s past.
Matthew C. Blank, Chairman and CEO of Showtime Networks Inc., reflected on the show’s incredible success in a statement:
When it debuted in 2006, DEXTER redefined the genre, by taking the anti-hero to new heights and pushing the boundaries of the television landscape. DEXTER paved the way for the next generation of award-winning hit SHOWTIME series, and its cultural impact will be felt for years to come.
David Nevins, President of Entertainment at Showtime Networks Inc., also gave credit where credit is due:
DEXTER is a landmark franchise for our network, and we cannot wait to unveil the conclusion of this series, as we know it, to the millions of passionate fans who have supported the show season after season. The network also released a preview of what’s to come in season eight, which is officially being dubbed “The Final Season.”
