The CW announced big changes for ‘The Carrie Diaries’ season two on May 16, including that we’ll meet one of Carrie’s lifelong friends, Samantha Jones!

The Carrie Diaries’ move to Fridays is a bit depressing, but The CW made up for it at the upfront on May 16, by announcing that for season two they’ll be adding the character of Samantha Jones, played by Kim Catrall in HBO’s Sex and the City!

‘The Carrie Diaries’ Season 2 — Samantha Jones Joining Cast

"I'm really, really excited. I had to keep it a secret, but I think it's going to be so much fun. I'm looking forward to seeing where that goes,” AnnaSophia Robb told HollywoodLife.com sister site TVLine at the event.

The network previews that we’ll see the two women meet in the upcoming second season, however, the role has not been cast yet. In case you haven’t read the book series, Samantha is the cousin of bad girl Donna LaDonna.

Previously, in the season one finale, Stanford Blatch was mentioned as Bennet's club-promoter roommate. We come to know Stanford as Carrie’s BFF in Sex and the City. He has yet to be cast as well.

The CW Preview Season 2 Of ‘The Carrie Diaries’

Here’s The CW’s full description of what’s to come:

It's the summer of 1985, and, for the first time, 17-year-old Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) can call Manhattan home.  After her boyfriend Sebastian (Austin Butler) and best friend Maggie (Katie Findlay) betrayed her, Carrie is happy to accept the offer to spend the summer living in the downtown loft apartment of her Interview magazine boss Larissa (Freema Agyeman).  But as summer turns to fall and Carrie heads into her senior year, she and her friends and family discover that letting go of old loves and embracing new dreams comes with some tough new realities but also incredible new opportunities.  Based on the novels "The Carrie Diaries" and "Summer and the City" by Candace Bushnell, THE CARRIE DIARIES is from Fake Empire in association with Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Amy B. Harris ("Sex and the City," "Gossip Girl"), Josh Schwartz ("Hart of Dixie," "Gossip Girl"), Stephanie Savage ("Hart of Dixie," "Gossip Girl"), Len Goldstein ("Hart of Dixie") and Candace Bushnell.

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Who should play Samantha Jones? Who else should be introduced?
