Say it ain’t so! After scoring 127 goals, playing in three World Cups, and being the only English soccer player to be celebrated in four countries, David Beckham is hanging up his boots.
Soccer fans around the world are weeping on May 16, as soccer legend David Beckham announced his retirement, ending a glittering career. David, 38, said that now is the “right time” to finish his career, after two decades of playing soccer and collecting 115 caps. The sports world has lost a hero.
David Beckham Retires
David was playing for French team Paris Saint-German at the time of his retirement announcement, and despite being offered another one year contract, David instead decided to hang up his soccer boots.
“I’m thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level,” he told the Daily Mail.
So sad!
David Beckham’s Career Achievements
During his career, David played for Manchester United, Preston North End, Real Madrid, Milan, Los Angeles Galaxy, and finally PSG. He was also captain of the English team for six years, and played in three World Cups.
He made his name playing for Manchester United, where he played 394 games and scored 85 goals.
Following the sad news of his retirement, David said he will dedicate his time to a variety of organisations, which include Sky Sports, Adidas, Unicef and promoting football in China.
