If Lady Gaga indeed lives for “the applause,” then she must have gotten an extra five years added onto her super-weird life during her Aug. 25 performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. The jam-packed audience at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, as well as the millions of Little Monsters watching from home, went nuts as the artist formerly known as Stefani Germanotta burned her stage to the ground. (Not literally, although I wouldn’t have put it past her.)
Gaga opened the show with her killer new single, first taking the stage as a nun — though not a very convincing one. Her back-up dancers wasted no time ripping off her habit, though, revealing a sexy, skin-tight glittery body suit.
But that wasn’t the only costume change during Gaga’s performance. She also slipped on an ’80s-style blue blazer — holy shoulder pads, Batman! — and even adjusted her makeup mid-performance. We especially loved seeing her slip that classic Gaga blonde wig on mid-song, a throwback to her “Telephone” days.
Of course, nothing she wore during her performance could hold a candle to the sexy white bikini(?) Gaga donned for the final moments of the song.
