Lamar Odom may be going through a difficult time but he doesn’t have to do it alone. Two drug counselors from the National Basketball Players Association reportedly contacted Lamar on Aug. 29 to offer their help, and he accepted.
Lamar Odom & NBA Drug Counselors Had Secret Meeting Before DUI Arrest
Lamar had two secret visitors just hours before he was reportedly arrested for a DUI early in the morning on Aug. 30.
Lamar reportedly agreed to meet with two drug counselors, former NBA players Dirk Minniefield and Cliff Robinson, after they reached out to him, according to a new report from TMZ.
Cliff and Dirk, who both battled substance abuse issues during their careers, now work with the NBPA to help troubled basketball players cope with addiction. These two sound like they have a lot to offer Lamar, and sources told TMZ he was receptive.
“It was very positive,” a source reveals. But even though the meeting seemed to have gone well, shortly after Dirk and Cliff left, Lamar drove off and didn’t return.
The next thing we knew, Lamar was reportedly arrested early Aug. 30 for a DUI. He was reportedly under the influence of both drugs and alcohol, according to TMZ.
Lamar Odom Arrested For DUI
Lamar was arrested by the California Highway Patrol in San Fernando Valley at 3:54 AM, according to TMZ. He was reportedly taken to a nearby police station, where he was booked and was being held on $15,000 bail. He was booked about an hour later into a jail in Van Nuys. He was released at 8:33 a.m., a public informations officer for the LA County Jail System tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
Lamar was reportedly pulled over on the 101 Freeway for going too slow, about 50 miles per hour. He was reportedly also unresponsive to police, driving past three exits before pulling over, according to People. The professional athlete reportedly failed multiple sobriety field tests, and refused to submit himself to chemical tests, according to TMZ.
The public informations officer also tells us that Lamar’s court date is set for Sept. 27. We hope he will be seeing things more clearly by then.
