Selena’s new film ‘The Getaway’ hit theaters to terrible reviews on Aug. 30, and HollywoodLife.com has EXCLUSIVELY learned how she feels about getting slammed by the critics.
The Getaway currently has a score of 2 percent on the film review site Rotten Tomatoes, which is a rating usually reserved for the worst movies of all time. But one person who isn’t too concerned about that is the star of the film, Selena Gomez. Read on to find out all the EXCLUSIVE details about how she’s handling all this negativity.
Selena Gomez On ‘Getaway’ Reviews — She’s Unconcerned With Negative Comments
Poor Selena! Well-respected movie reviewers like Rolling Stone‘s Peter Travers are totally dissing her new movie The Getaway. “The damage to your brain while watching it is incalculable,” Peter said in his review.
It doesn’t stop there – Bilge Ebiri of Vulture stated, “It may be the dumbest movie released this summer.”
Ouch! We were really starting to feel bad for Selena, but it turns out she’s staying positive about her involvement in the panned flick, a source close to the actress tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
“Sure she would love to get great reviews on all of her work but she has gotten to a point in her career where she does the work she wants to do and doesn’t really focus on what critics will say about it,” the source reveals, adding, ”She isn’t really thinking about it, nor will she put much thought into it.”
Good for her! We’re so glad Selena has such an optimistic outlook, because it would be so easy for her to get caught up in what the critics have to say and feel hurt about their negative reviews.
We commend Selena for having a strong head on her shoulders!
Selena Gomez Is The Bright Spot Of the Film, Critics Say
Its not all bad for Selena, as some reviewers say they respect her for her role and consider it the best part about an otherwise awful movie. Here are some positive words about Selena:
Variety
During a brief respite after the opening melee, a feisty teen (Gomez) appears brandishing a handgun and claiming to be the Shelby's rightful owner. But despite the brusque meet-cute, Gomez's unnamed character (billed only as "The Girl") isn't quite the girl-gone-wild she played to great effect earlier this year in Harmony Korine's "Spring Breakers." In this pic's fanciful universe, she's supposed to be a whiz-kid computer hacker…
New York Times
Just when the vicarious thrill of watching him obey the Voice's order to "smash everything you can" loses its novelty, Brent is carjacked by the Kid (Selena Gomez), a shrill, bossy young woman with a baby face and a chip on her shoulder.
Sounds like Selena saved the show! So HollywoodLifers, is it possible that all the critics are wrong? Are you proud of Selena for standing up for her film? Will YOU go see The Getaway? Sound off below!
