They might be leaders of the free world, but they are just like every other family! In a new ‘Vogue’ interview, the president and first lady detailed how they have normal family problems — especially when their caretaker quit out of the blue!
Barack and Michelle Obama may be the president and first lady of the United States, but with two young daughters to look after — Sasha, 11, and Malia, 14, their family life is actually pretty normal – especially since they were an average middle-class family before the president became the leader of the free world!
President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama sat down for an interview with Vogue magazine, who covers the April issue, and revealed that their rapid rise to fame after Barack’s 2004 Democratic National Convention speech actually helped their public persona, and kept them grounded — much like how they were before they were known worldwide.
President Obama: We Were A Typical Middle-Class Family
“I was a state senator, but nobody knows who a state senator is. So most of our 30s and 40s were as a typical middle-class family. . . . That really didn't change until I was 45 years old. And there's something about having lived a normal life and raised kids,” he tells Vogue.
"We had to figure out how to make a mortgage, payin' the bills, goin' to Target, and freakin' out when . . . the woman who's looking after your girls while Michelle's working suddenly decides she's quittin'. . . . All those experiences made us who we were, so that by the time this thing hit, it was hard for us to,” he added.
It’s hard to believe a babysitter would quit working for the Obamas!
