3-Year-Old Boy Dies After Accidentally Shooting Himself With Found Gun Aug 21st 2013, 16:14, by Kristine Hope Kowalski How tragic! A 3-year-old boy has died after accidentally shooting himself with a gun he found in a bedroom closet at his Michigan home. The owner of the gun, a family friend, has been charged following this terrible incident. Damon Holbrook, 3, accidentally shot himself in the head after finding a gun in a bedroom closet of his Dundee, Michigan home on Aug. 18. The boy discovered the unlocked gun within mere minutes of it being left unattended. 3-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shoots Himself In The Head The gun belonged to a family friend Joshua Greenhill, who lives in the house. He had “a concealed pistol license and he put the .40 caliber handgun in the closet. It was loaded, with a bullet in the chamber — but was not locked,” authorities told CNN affiliate WXYZ. He reportedly was putting the gun away in his closet but left the room, and “within four minutes” the little boy had already found the gun. Three other children were reportedly in the home at the time of this terrible accident, but were unharmed. Joshua Greenhill, 30, was arrested and charged with “careless discharge of a firearm,” reports CNN. He appeared in court on August 19 but did not speak to the media. Victim’s Father Speaks Out About Gun Control After the terrible shooting, Damon’s father, Brian Holbrook, spoke out on social media. He posted the following message to his Facebook page: I have nothing wrong with guns it’s with this country was built on. I will still support the Second Amendment. All I ask is that everyone please, please safety first lock it up and put it out of reach of anyone that has no business being around a gun especially kids. Gun safety people! My boy would still be here if it was put away like it should have been. Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
