It’s no secret that Liam Payne is totally smitten with his new girlfriend, Sophia Smith – but have you heard all the reasons why? Liam, 19, and Sophia, 24, go way back to their school days at St. Peter’s Collegiate School in England, so they obviously have a long history and lots of shared experiences. The one thing they don’t have is drama — and Liam likes it that way!
Liam Payne’s New Girlfriend — Why He Loves Sophia Smith
After Liam,19, broke up with his on-again, off-again girlfriend of three years, Danielle Peazer, 25, in May, he was hoping his next love would be an “easy-going girl,” according to Us Weekly.
It seems like Liam really lucked out with Sophia — his friends say she is very sweet and down-to-earth.
Sophia also understands how important One Direction is to Liam — she even flew 5,000 miles across the Atlantic so she could attend the band's final U.S. concert in Los Angeles on August 10.
Meanwhile, Liam’s former flame Danielle had him contemplating leaving the band just so he could spend more time with her. That simply won’t do!
It seems like Sophia is a much better fit for Liam.
Liam Payne Defends Dating Sophia Smith On Twitter
Unfortunately, not everyone is on board with Liam’s new love, and Liam was not amused when his fans dissed his relationship with Sophia on Twitter. On August 21, he posted two intense messages about the hate mail he’s received about Sophia on social media.
Liam and Sophia attended the premiere of the One Direction film This Is Us on August 20 and they looked so happy together. So it was a total surprise to read Liam’s angry tweets the next day. Still, we don’t blame him at all for defending Sophia at all — in fact, it’s very honorable of him and it shows how much he cares about her.
“Always sad to get on here to read horrible stuff about someone you care about,” he tweeted. Then he followed up that tweet with another that read: “There is that old saying tho if you ain’t got sh*t nice to say then f**k you.”
This was a strong message to send to his One Direction fans, but clearly Liam felt it was necessary.
It sounds like he really loves Sophia and he’s willing to defend their relationship to the end!
