An Iraq war veteran turned Arizona Cardinals cheerleader has been arrested for allegedly attacking her boyfriend over a flirty text message he sent to an ex-girlfriend.
Megan Welter called the police to help her kick her professional fighter boyfriend out of her apartment after an argument early July 20. But once they arrived, it was Megan who was arrested, after her boyfriend, Ryan McMahon, showed police footage of her hitting and scratching him while yelling, “Who is she?”

In the 911 call, Megan, who spent 16 months leading a platoon in Iraq, claimed Ryan choked her and smashed her head on a ceramic tile floor. But Ryan denied harming her, and police could find no evidence of him attacking her, according to the UK’s Daily Mail. Ryan, however, had scratches on his arms, chest and shoulder.
The argument started on Megan’s birthday after the couple went out drinking to celebrate. Ryan told police Megan, 29, thought he resented her because she got an abortion without consulting him first. He said she was jealous over a text he sent to an ex who had sent him a picture of a dog. His reply read, “Are you trying to turn me on with a girl dog?”
AZ Cardinals Cheerleader’s Boyfriend Pressing Charges?
Ryan was really understanding about the attack and said he didn’t want to press charges against Megan. He explained his decision in an interview with 3TV:
People make mistakes — no one is perfect. I honestly want the best for her and I hope that this doesn’t take away from the good things that she has done for both the NFL, as well as the service to our country. People seem to only remember the bad and it is easy to point fingers while standing on the outside. Now with that said, violence is never the answer and I honestly hope that this can be a learning experience for her and everyone else.
Megan was arrested for alleged assault, disorderly conduct and criminal damage. It is not clear whether her arrest will affect her position on the Cardinals cheerleading team.
The cheerleader was praised by the media last week for serving her country.
She told ABC15, “I was deployed to Joint Base Belad, which is about an hour North of Baghdad. At first, it was scary, but it’s what I signed up to do.”
