With Game of Thrones‘ third season just two days away — the premiere airs March 31 at 9 p.m. on HBO — the people of Westeros are so close, we can practically smell them! (Especially those dragons, for obvious reasons.) HollywoodLife.com got an early look at the show’s highly anticipated return, and we’re sharing five teases that should get you even more excited for winter.
Lannister Vs. Lannister
The Battle of Blackwater left more than just a scar on Tyrion’s (Peter Dinklage) face; it also created a devastating rift within the Lannister family. The icy spats between Tyrion, Cersei (Lena Headey) and Tywin on the season premiere will make you look back on their former relationships with fond memories. Compared to the way they are now, they were practically the cast of Leave It To Beaver last season!
Daenerys’ New (Old) Friend
Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) spends her portion of the premiere shopping around for the ultimate army, but by the end of the episode, she ends up getting a lot more than she bargains for. The khaleesi gains a powerful new ally — who actually turns out to be very familiar.
Will Sansa Escape To Winterfell?
She may be free from Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) in a marital sense, but Sansa (Sophie Turner) is still very much the king’s prisoner when season three picks up. And even though Petyr Baelish has a plan up his sleeve to help Sansa escape, the premiere reveals she might have more enemies plotting to keep her at bay than she realizes. And by “might have,” I mean she definitely has more enemies than she realizes.
Will Margaery Change Joffrey’s Awful Ways?
Joffrey’s new squeeze introduces the royal family to some strange new concepts — you know, like actually being kind to the people over whom you rule. But what’s interesting is seeing how the various Lannisters react to her Princess Diana-esque ways. If I were Margaery, I’d keep an eye out for my new monster-in-law!
Stannis & Melisandre: Together Forever?
Following his miserable defeat at the Battle of Blackwater, Stannis has a decision to make on the season premiere: His men, or that bat-s**t crazy ginger Melisandre? His choice will change everything.
