Prince William is currently a Royal Air Force helicopter rescue pilot, but when summer rolls around and he becomes a new father, he may be done flying for good.
Prince William may have another big decision to make soon — and we’re not talking about what he and Kate Middleton will choose to name their baby. With his family and responsibilities growing, he may be retiring from his flying career, a new report claims.
Prince William’s Military Roles — Coming To A Halt?
“Changes [in his life] are afoot,” a source told People. With the role of father taking precedent come summertime, officials at the palace are set to announce William’s next move within the next few weeks.
He could stay involved with the RAF, change positions in the military, or leave completely. According to a senior palace source, it’s likely that he will go for a greater role within the family.
Prince William Becoming Full-Time Family Man
“It’s a big watershed moment – whether or not he stays in the services or whether a dynamic role can be created for him,” historian Robert Lacey said. “There is no one in the royal family below Charles who can really do the job.”
The job that Robert is referring to is all about the royal family. Ken Wharfe, the former bodyguard to Princess Diana spoke to People as well. “The Duke of Edinburgh is aging, the Queen is entering her late 80s, and the Prince and Camilla are not that popular. There was some hesitation about ‘Do we push William into a full time royal role?’ But now, with him being married and a baby on the way, is the perfect timing.”
