With an overflowing ER, the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital were in the midst of chaos on the March 28 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Plus, a concerned mother (Sarah Chalke) repeatedly brought her son to the hospital, insisting there was something wrong with him that the doctors weren’t finding. Did her son really have a rare illness, or was she making it all up?
A serious car accident sent a family of three to the ER. While Derek (Patrick Dempsey) performed brain surgery on the mother, Cristina (Sandra Oh) took the father into heart surgery, leaving their young son alone in the hospital. Thankfully for the boy, Owen (Kevin McKidd) agreed to let him stay over night at the hospital instead of going with a social worker.
After a mother was sent home when her child tested positive for strep throat, she returned to the hospital, insisting there’s something different wrong with him. While some doctors thought she may be crazy, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) was on her side. The mother presented Mere with research she had done on her own, but none of the symptoms seemed to add up.
Callie (Sara Ramirez) received an invitation to a prestigious conference, but was forced to miss it when she had an emergency patient. When Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) accidentally made a comment about how it was good that Callie missed the conference because she needed to work on her speech, Callie got very upset. Luckily, Callie got over it when Arizona and the Chief (James Pickens Jr.) surprised her by arranging for her to do the speech from the hospital via camera.
Avery (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) were forced to work together when they were both assigned to a pregnant patient who was injured in an oil tank explosion. After the patient died, April was extremely upset and relied on Avery for consoling. The duo had a moment where they almost kissed, but of course, Alex (Justin Chambers) interrupted them.
Meredith relied on her mother’s intuition when she still couldn’t find any answers for her patient’s mom. When she learned the strep test was a false positive, she immediately realized the boy’s mother had been right all along. The boy was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease just in time to avoid any permanent damage to his heart!
Inspired by her patient’s mother, Meredith went to Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and asked for her to do gene mapping for her and Zola — which means Meredith will finally find out if she has Alzheimer’s like her mother!
