It’s time of year! College basketball’s year-ending tournament kicked off officially on Sunday, Mar. 17 when the bracket was revealed. Plenty of celebrities took to Twitter to cheer on their favorite teams. Click to read all the tweets!
The 68 teams that will be playing for college basketball’s national championship were announced on Mar. 17, and many celebrities used Twitter to express their excitement — and in some cases disappointment — about this year’s March Madness.
Celebrities Get March Madness: Cheer On Their Alma Maters
There were a lot of celebs giving their alma maters shout outs. John Legend, who is a graduate of Ohio State University, tweeted, “Congratulations to THE Ohio State University! Big 10 champs!” By winning the Big 10, Ohio State secured a two-seed — they’re one of the favorites to win the whole tournament!
Jimmy Kimmel congratulated his alma mater UNLV, saying, “Go forth, Rebels! @UNLVRebellion.”
Nelly repped his hometown college team, the Saint Louis University Billikens: “Congrads to SLU #4 seed in tournament !!! GO GETTEM Stlouis !!! !!!!!” he tweeted.
And then there’s Ashley Judd, who had a tough day when her alma mater University of Kentucky was not selected to play in the tournament. “Offsetting March Sadness w/ KY schools WKY & UoL dancing (& w/ such style),” she messaged. The notorious Kentucky superfan is apparently taking pride in the other Kentucky teams that made it in!
T.I. & More Celebs Tweet For March Madness
Other stars got in the Twitter act, cheering on their favorite teams.
“Congrats to Ole Miss..March Madness will be unreal..” sportscaster Erin Andrews tweeted.
Rapper T.I. got behind the University of Memphis, messaging, “Congrats @UofMTigersHoops CUSA 2013 Conference Champs!”
And director Spike Lee really got into the March Madness mood, sending out multiple tweets. “Good Luck To LIU/BROOKLYN BLACKBIRDS In Play In Game Against James Madison-MARCH MADNESS,” he tweeted, giving a shout out to his hometown college. He also congratulated VCU’s coach Shaka Smart, saying, “Good Luck To Coach Shaka “Havoc”Smart And The VCU Rams For The Upcoming NCAA Tournament.”
Finally, comedian Michael Ian Black joked that he already knew who the champion was going to be: “Just filled out my March Madness bracket. Once again, I’ve got Julliard to win it all. #thisistheiryear.”
