The federal courthouse in South Boston was evacuated on April 17 after a “code red” was announced in the building. Reporters and bystanders had gathered at the courthouse after news of a possible arrest in the Boston Marathon bombings was reported. However, the arrest has since been denied by the Boston Police and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Boston Courthouse Evacuated
“Federal courthouse is being evacuated,” The Boston Globe wrote on Twitter.
K9 units were seen entering the courthouse as police shouted for people outside to “get back across the street,” the New York Post reports.
A “code red” is the highest alert for the building and signifies a bomb threat or a fire. According to the New York Post, an official at the courthouse called the Code Red “very serious.”
“Federal courthouse evacuated; hundreds outside. People are being pushed back from building. Coast Guard and police boats in water. The courthouse is where a large contingent of media had gathered for an expected appearance by the suspect in Marathon bombings,” The Boston Globe continued to say on their Twitter account.
When asked — point blank — if there was a bomb, a cop responded to a Post reporter, “Does evacuate 100 yards mean anything to you? Move!”
