‘The Carrie Diaries’ is one of the best shows on The CW, but sadly, viewers aren’t tuning in. Find out what the network needs to do in order to see the series live on for many, many more seasons!
A second season for The Carrie Diaries has yet to be granted, but the season finale on April 8 had way too many cliffhangers for it to serve as a possible series finale.
‘The Carrie Diaries’: Season 2 Up In The Air — 5 Ways To Save The Series
It’s not a secret that The Carrie Diaries doesn’t have the biggest audience. In fact, it’s on the bubble for a second season renewal. I have a theory as to why viewers may be fleeing from the freshman series, and here are five ways to change the show for the better!
1. Get rid of Maggie, Mouse and Dorrit. These are undoubtedly the most disliked characters on the series. Mouse is too immature, Maggie is aggressively annoying and Dorrit is a constant downer. If characters aren’t relatable or likable, viewers flock. Let’s ax half the cast and start fresh. How can this be solved? With a time jump!
2. Fast forward the series one year and move Carrie and Walt to NYC full-time. Time jumps are always a great way to reinvigorate a series. One Tree Hill did so in season 5 and they were able to start over again, continuing on for five more seasons. Plus, OTH was able to ax unnecessary characters without needing to explain the absences. Carrie and Walt have such great chemistry, as Walt does with Bennet and Carrie does with Larissa. These should be the core characters.
3. Add more sex. For a series that follows high schoolers, there’s certainly a lack of sex. Sure, Maggie hooks up with a police officer from time to time and Mouse had a romp marathon with her college boyfriend, but the series lacks the steamy factor that its predecessor, Gossip Girl, did. Where’s the sex and the scandal? We knew this series was before Sex (and the City), but who knew there’d be so little of it?
4. Let Carrie be silly. Carrie is way too mature for her age. Yes, her mom passed away and she had to take on the role as the mother figure, but let the girl have some fun. Let her get into some trouble! We want to be able to relate to the protagonist of the series! Not a lot of people in high school are trying to raise their adolescent sister or telling their dad when he can start dating.
5. Develop Walt’s relationship with Bennet. Walt and Bennet have the potential of being the next Kurt and Blaine. They’re a fan favorite and one of the few reasons I watch the series. Walt’s coming out storyline felt so real and authentic, and he possesses amazing chemistry with Bennet. I really hope that we get to see their relationship progress well into next season and beyond!
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Should The CW renew The Carrie Diaries for season two?
