Tom Cruise Talks Divorce From Katie Holmes
“I did not expect that,” Tom told Germany’s Bunte magazine.
The hunky actor is currently promoting his new film Oblivion, but 10 months after his divorce, he’s still asked about his split from Katie. In a sit-down with German TV network ProSieben, via the magazine, Tom admits that he was taken by surprise when the Dawson’s Creek star filed for divorce after five years of marriage.
Katie announced their split, on June 29, five days before Tom’s 50th birthday. Two weeks later, Katie and Tom’s lawyers reached a settlement that gave Katie custody over Suri, 6, and Tom received generous visitation rights. Tom says he had “an incredible amount of time to reflect” during his milestone birthday.
“Life is a challenge,” Tom admitted. “To be 50 and have experiences and think you have everything under control, and then it hits you—that’s what life is…Life is tragicomic. You need a certain sense of humor.”
We’re glad that Tom has a sense of humor about his divorce. We can imagine that the split was traumatic for his daughter Suri, so knowing that her parents are keeping a calm demeanor despite the breakup, is great to hear.
