Lea has a long road of healing in front of her after Cory Monteith’s death, but a combination of individual counseling and a recovery program could greatly help the actress with the grieving process, an expert tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively.

Lea Michele and Cory Monteith‘s family are leaning on each other after the actor’s death on July 13. An addiction expert sheds light on how the Glee actress can benefit from the help of therapy and the support of a twelve step program.

Cory Monteith Dead —  Leah Michele Needs Therapy & A Recovery Program

“Lea Michele would benefit from both professional counseling, along with the support of a twelve step program like Al Anon or Codependents Anonymous,” addiction specialist Steven Orenstein, LMFT, who runs the Neurodevelopmental Learning Institute in Los Angeles, tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. Steve says:

“It’s very important that Lea learns how to not blame herself for the tragic loss of Cory. She may be questioning herself and saying ‘If only I didn’t let Cory go to Vancouver’, ‘If only I went to Vancouver with Cory’. There is nothing Lea could have done to prevent Cory’s unfortunate death, and she needs to fully understand this. She also needs to go to individual therapy for her grief and loss issues. Most people who are in a relationship with an addict are considered to be co-dependent. This is an addiction in itself. Most co-dependents don’t even know they are co-dependent until the addict goes into treatment. Often, the co-dependent lives for the other person. They have difficulty putting their needs first. They worship the addict and their lives revolve around that individual. Being in a healthy relationship with an addict takes a lot of work. The whole family has to be on board in the recovery process. It’s agonizing being in this type of relationship because at any moment your heart can be broken.  An addict’s main relationship is with the alcohol and drugs, not their significant other.”

So sad. Lea’s heart is definitely broken after her boyfriend of almost two years was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room.

Lea Michele & Cory Monteith's Family Grieving Death Of 'Glee' Actor Together

We told you before that Lea's rep asked that "everyone kindly respect Lea's privacy during this devastating time" in a statement to HollywoodLife.com. Lea, 26, was obviously still in shock and wasn't ready to speak about Cory's death, but she issued a longer statement through her reps on July 16.

"Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she's received from family, friends, and fans. Since Cory's passing, Lea has been grieving alongside his family and making appropriate arrangements with them," reads the statement obtained by PEOPLE magazine.

"They are supporting each other as they endure this profound loss together. We continue to ask the media to respect the privacy of Lea and Cory's family."

Our prayers and thoughts go out to Lea during this difficult time.
