You’re outta here, A-Rod! The controversial baseball star finally heard his penalty for using performance enhancing drugs, and it looks like he’ll be kept off the field for a long, long time.

Don’t expect to see Alex Rodriguez hit a home run for a very long time. After a long wait, Major League Baseball finally handed down their suspension to the oft-publicized baseball player, banning him from the game for…

Alex Rodriguez: MLB Hands Down Harsh Suspension

A total of 214 games! In an announcement on August 5, the MLB announced that A-Rod would be suspended for the rest of the 2013 season, and the entire 2014 season.

The baseball players’ union reportedly tried to appeal the massive suspension, but were told that there would be no more negotiations, according to ESPN.

It’s hard to tell how Alex is going to feel about this penalty. On one hand, he’s being suspended for a seriously long time, and at 38 years old, he can’t really afford to miss any more time away from baseball. Then again, about a week ago, multiple reports claimed that the MLB was going to try to ban him for life for allegedly tampering with evidence and trying to divert the official investigation on him.

So in a sense, A-Rod is getting off easy.

Alex is expected to appeal the suspension, and since he is allowed to play during the appeal process, A-Rod should be in the lineup for the New York Yankees as the play the Chicago White Sox tonight, August 5.

MLB Steroids Scandal — 11 Other Players Suspended

Alex’s suspension comes along with suspensions for 11 other players who have also been implicated in the Biogenesis scandal and accused of taking performance enhancing drugs.

Nelson CruzEverth CabreraJhonny PeraltaAntonio BastardoFrancisco CervelliJordany ValdespinJesus MonteroCesar PuelloSergio EscalonaFernando MartinezFautino De Los Santos, and Jordan Norberto are all first-time offenders, and have been handed 50-game suspensions.

It’s obviously an extremely dark day for baseball. For the biggest name in the game to get a such a harsh suspension — and for 11 other players to go down as well — is a blemish that the MLB will struggle to erase. As for A-Rod, his legacy is definitely ruined forever.
