Katherine Russell: Brainwashed By Tamerlan Tsarnaev
Tamerlan was killed because of role in the Boston Marathon bombings, where he and his brother Dzhokar Tsarnaev planted two bombs that killed three people and left dozens dismembered.
Katherine, also known as Katie, was a sweet girl who grew up with a normal family life in Rhode Island when she met Tamerlan. She converted to Islam and dropped out of college to be with him.
“I saw her like a few months ago and she was just totally transformed. She was not the same person at all,” said one of Katherine’s school friends to the Mail Online.
“She was just this All-American girl who was brainwashed by her super-religious husband. Nobody understands what happened to her,” said another friend. “None of us would have dreamed that she would marry so young or drop out of college and have a baby or convert or be part of any of what's happened.”
“She's just not the same person at all.”
Katie grew up with her two sisters, and attended the local high school where she was part of the dance team.
“Her parents are nice people, her sisters are great girls. But she met this guy, I guess, and everything changed,” said her former classmate.
How sad. While the entire situation is so tragic, at least now Katherine can move on with her life and focus on raising her daughter.
Katherine’s family have since admitted that they never really knew Tamerlan.
On April 19, Katherine’s family released a statement:
“Our daughter has lost her husband today, the father of her child. We cannot begin to comprehend how this horrible tragedy occurred. In the aftermath of the Patriot’s Day horror, we know that we never really knew Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Our hearts are sickened by the knowledge of the horror he has inflicted. Please respect our family’s privacy during this time.”
