It was a day of mourning in Medford, Mass. as the funeral was held on April 22 for the 29-year-old who was tragically killed by the Boston Marathon bombings. Family, friends, and hundreds of other supporters attended the ceremony to remember Krystle. Keep reading for more details on the somber, heartbreaking event.

Krystle Campbell, 29, was taken from this world far too soon by the devastating bombings at the Boston Marathon. And on April 22, hundreds lined Main Street of Krystle’s hometown, Medford, Mass., to grieve as she was laid to rest.

Krystle Campbell: Boston Bombing Victim’s Emotional Funeral

Krystle’s family held a funeral mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Medford, and a day earlier on April 21 had a wake from 3 PM to 7 PM at Dello Rosso Funeral Home. At the wake, so many people — about 1,000 — showed up to pay their respects that the line wrapped around multiple streets.

Relatives described Krystle as “an incredible and loving sister, daughter, niece, granddaughter, and friend,” and the effect she had on those she touched was evident by the support shown at her funeral and wake. Lillian Campbell, Krystle’s grandmother, described the outpouring as “amazing,” and said that the family has even been contacted by President Obama.

The Campbell family has set up the Krystle M. Campbell Foundation, where people can make contributions in lieu of sending flowers.

Before she was tragically killed on April 15, Krystle had been living with her grandmother to care for her for the past couple of years. Every year, she went into Boston to watch the marathon.

Krystle’s funeral is the first ceremony of the three victims who were taken by the bombings — funerals for Boston University student Lingzi Lu and 8-year-old Martin Richard are yet to be announced.
