The lead singer of the Australian group the Divinyls died at her NYC home on April 21, after battling breast cancer and multiple sclerosis.

Chrissy Amphlett died on April 21, at the age of 53. The Australian singer, most famous for her 1991 hit “I Touch Myself,” died at her home in NYC. Her husband, Charley Drayton released a statement that said she “succumbed to the effects of breast cancer and multiple sclerosis.”

The singer recently spoke about her illness and said: “My illnesses have really exhausted this little body of mine that I have thrown from one end of the stage to another and performed thousands of shows that sadly some of you missed. With that said I am getting stronger but there is still some fine tuning and work to be done on myself.”

Chrissy’s band the Divinyls formed in 1980 and went on to record six albums over the next 14 years. “I Touch Myself,” became a top hit in the US, UK and in Australia.

Her fellow Aussie, Russell Crowe, spoke out on Twitter about her death and said: “Dear Chrissie, The last time I saw you was in the Botanic Gardens, loving life and reciting verse. That’s how I’ll remember you, your boy, R.”

It’s so sad that her life was cut short so soon. She leaves behind many fans and of course her husband who was a drummer for their band. They did not have any children together and it’s unclear when her funeral will be held.

HollywoodLife.com has reached out to her rep for further information on this tragic situation.
