Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the surviving member of the sibling duo who set off multiple bombs at the Boston Marathon finish line on April 15, was officially charged from his hospital bed a week later on April 22.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Officially Charged
Dzhokhar faced a magistrate judge who read him the charges from his hospital bed, according to the Boston Globe. Dzhokhar will be tried in United States courts and will not be treated as an enemy combatant because at the end of the day, he is a US citizen.
Dzhokhar was arrested on April 19 after a day-long manhunt in Boston. He had initially escaped an early morning shootout that killed his brother/accomplice Tamerlan, but was finally found hiding in a Watertown, Mass. resident’s boat later in the day.
There has been such a gap in between Dzhokhar’s arrest and his official charges because he was so badly injured from massive blood loss and a gruesome throat wound that he was physically unfit to hear them. But on the morning of April 22, Dzhokhar was awake and capable of answering questions — though only by writing answers on paper.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Held Accountable For His Crimes
Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev have left a tragic path of devastation behind them. Not only did they kill three innocent people and injure nearly 200 more with the bombs they set off at the marathon finish line, they murdered an MIT campus policeman and critically injured another during their violent escape attempt. And that isn’t even mentioning the terror they struck in the city of Boston and small, quiet town of Watertown.
