Jeff Bauman, who lost both legs in the bombing, displayed amazing courage after surgery by immediately asking for a pen and paper to help the FBI identify the bomber.
While the breaking news from Boston continues to unravel, another story of a hero has come into focus. Jeff Bauman, 27, was terribly injured at the Boston bombings, rushed to safety and immediately underwent surgery — yet the moment he woke up April 18, he reportedly wrote a note to his brother, stating that he saw the bomber.
A Victim Becomes A Hero
A photo of Jeff, 27, in a wheelchair being rushed to help has circled the media; and now it’s been revealed that even after his horrific injuries, he’s doing all he can to help the FBI catch the two suspects.
Just two minutes after waking up from surgery, still under the influence of strong pain medication, Jeff wanted to help.
“He woke up under so much drugs, asked for a paper and pen and wrote, ‘bag, saw the guy, looked right at me,”" Jeff’s brother, Chris Bauman told Bloomberg in an interview. ”I've had many times alone with him, and yes, he told me every single detail.”
Jeff’s Description Identifies Terrorist
While still in intensive care, Jeff worked with the FBI to give a description of a man wearing a cap, a black sweatshirt and sunglasses, who dropped a bag at his feet and looked right at him — just two minutes before the explosion went off.
That description was a key factor in helping the FBI to identify one of the two suspects: Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, who was killed early April 19.
A Facebook page has been created to show support for Jeff and his family, where a message states that Jeff is “doing awesome, another successful surgery and he’s talking, making jokes and in very good spirits.”
