The officer killed at Massachusetts Institute of Technology on April 18 was 26-years-old. His name is Sean Collier, and it’s being reported that he was shot multiple times when the suspects were trying to steal a car from the campus.

The two men  Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, are believed to be responsible for the Boston bombings. They shot and they killed a police officer on April 18 at MIT and his identity has been revealed as Sean Collier.

Sean, was a police officer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and he was killed on the night of April 18. A shootout occurred on the campus when the men showed up to the campus 10:30 PM, after Dzhokhar robbed a 7/11 in Cambridge, Mass. Not too long after, Sean was killed.

Then the police reportedly chased the two suspects in a black Mercedes to Watertown, a quiet residential neighborhood outside of Boston.

Residents of Watertown said that they heard what sounded like firecrackers going off. Sean was taken to a nearby hospital after he was shot several times and he was pronounced dead.

MIT Executive Vice President and Treasurer Israel Ruiz and Chancellor Eric Grimson said:

“While the circumstances around the officer’s death remain the subject of an active investigation, what is certain is that the officer gave his life to defend the peace of our campus. His sacrifice will never be forgotten by the Institute. We are thinking now of his family, and our hearts are heavy.”

Massachusetts Gov. Duval Patrick urged all Boston residents to stay home.
