A funeral service for legendary actor James Gandolfini took place in a church on the Upper West Side June 27. Friends and fans of the actor flooded the church to pay their respects to the ‘Sopranos’ star.
The news of James Gandolfini’s sudden death shocked family, friends, and fans to their core on June 19. A funeral service for the actor was held at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine in Manhattan’s Upper West Side June 27 where friends, fans and co-stars — including James’ TV wife, Edie Falco – gathered to say goodbye to the actor.
Funeral Service For ‘Sopranos’ Star
The actor, best known for playing mob king Tony Soprano on The Sopranos from 1999 to 2007, died of a heart attack June 19 while vacationing with his son in Italy.
Hundreds gathered at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine to celebrate James’ life. According to the New York Post, the ceremony included a film tribute produced and filmed by HBO for the actor's family.
Celebrities Who Attended
Along with Edie, Sopranos creator David Chase and James’ TV daughter Jamie Lynn-Sigler attended the service with co-stars Lorraine Bracco and Joe Pantoliano. Alec Baldwin and Gov. Chris Christie also showed up to pay their respects to the New Jersey legend.
Final Curtain For The Hollywood Legend
Broadway theaters dimmed their lights June 26 in honor of the actor. James was nominated for a Tony in 2009 for his role in God of Carnage.
A private viewing was held for James in Park Ridge, N.J. June 26. James’ wife Deborah Lin and 9-month-old daughter Liliana were among the first to arrive to the wake, according to the New York Daily News.
It’s obvious that James was loved by many. He will be deeply missed.
