Just when you thought the girls knew all their enemies, another one emerged right under their noses.

As loyal Pretty Little Liars viewers, we all know the first rule about surviving in Rosewood: Trust no one! Someone might seem like a stand-up individual — he (or she) might even have a charming British accent — but as we saw on the Aug. 13 episode, their true intentions could be far more sinister.

I’m, of course, referring to Wren (Julian Morris), who played Mrs. Hastings like a fiddle, then placed an “anonymous phone call” which got her kicked off Ashley’s case. But here’s my question: Why? What does Wren have to gain by screwing over the liars and their parents? Methinks he’s got a deeper connection to Alison (Sasha Pieterse) that we’re not yet aware of.

After all, doesn’t everybody?

Ezra Fitz, You Are NOT The Father

In a plot twist that Maury Povich couldn’t have written any better himself, Ezra (Ian Harding) discovered that he’s not Malcolm’s father, after all! I kind of saw this revelation coming last week, but I never could have predicted how sad I would feel watching Ezra’s whole world caving in around him. He loved that kid, and I can’t even imagine how this is going to affect him moving forward.

Even more crushing was watching Ezra try to call Aria (Lucy Hale) to share the news — only to have her reject his call because she was with Jake (Ryan Guzman)! I know we’re supposed to feel for Ezra, and I do, but I’m also glad that learning about Malcolm’s paternity didn’t immediately trigger an Aria/Ezra reunion. We all know they’re destined to end up together in the end, but we’re a long way from the end. And anything worth having is worth fighting for.

Play Time With Ali & CeCe

Emily (Shay Mitchell) spent the episode staying in Alison’s old bedroom — yes, it was just as creepy as it sounds — and her visit yielded some pretty twisted secrets from Ali’s past, mostly about her relationship with CeCe (Vanessa Ray).

It turns out the girls used to “trade personalities,” which is why Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Toby (Keegan Allen) thought Ali had been the “blonde girl” messing with Toby’s mom — but now, they’re thinking it might have been CeCe, instead. If you’re even a little bit confused at this point, don’t worry. We all are.
