OH no! Read on to find out why Sandra has decided to exit the show that made her a household name.
Sandra Oh is preparing to make her final rounds at Seattle Grace. The actress, who has played the lovable-yet-awful Dr. Cristina Yang for nine seasons on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, has decided that the medical drama’s upcoming 10th season will be her last.
Sandra Oh’s Statement: ‘I Gave It My All’
Understandably, this announcement comes as a complete shock to fans of Sandra’s character. Here’s the complete statement she gave The Hollywood Reporter:
Creatively, I really feel like I gave it my all, and I feel ready to let her go. It's such an interesting thing to play a character for so long and to actually get the sense that she wants to be let go as well. [Cristina] wants to be let go, and I am ready to let her go. We have to start the process, story-wise, for the Grey's writers to think of why she's going to go.
Yikes! I’m glad the writers will have enough time to give Cristina closure, but it still feels like a strange move. Could Sandra be the first of several original docs to fly the coop after season 10?
And more importantly, how will Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) survive without her “person?”
