Sam Trammell expresses his — and our — concern over the apparent death of the show’s tallest vampire.

For the record, Sam Trammell feels the same way we do about True Blood‘s most recent twist. “I dont want Eric to be dead!” he tells Vulture in a new interview. “But honestly, I don’t know how that works itself out there. I don’t know what happens next with him.”

Ever the optimist, though, Sam is refusing to give up on Eric (Alexander Skarsgard).

“It’s good that he’s near water, even if it’s frozen water,” he jokes. “That seems to be a safer place than somewhere you couldn’t put it out. It seems like it could go either way. If you want to ask me to do something, I’ll call [showrunner Brian Buckner]!”

Sam’s joking, but truth be told, “Bucky” is one of the few people who knows for sure whether or not Eric will live to see the light of day — pun intended — in season seven.

Sam & Sookie: Is There Something There?

Sam’s interview also explores the possibility of Sam’s future with Sookie (Anna Paquin), whom he shared a very leading conversation with towards the end of the season. Seemingly out of nowhere — or, at least, out of the past — Sookie confessed her feelings for him, giving hope to die-hard fans of the coupling.

Here’s Sam’s take on the situation:

I would say it’s whatever the opposite of what serendipitous is — really bad timing — because I had just found out that Nicole was pregnant. And then basically the one person who I’ve loved since the very beginning of the series, the one that’s kind of stayed with me, having her come at that point? … Sam finally gets the thing that he wants, or the promise of it, and it’s a moment when he can’t have it, when his head is furthest from it. It’s great irony. … I think Sookie was probably really having those feelings.

In other words, we shouldn’t hold our breath for Sookie and Sam to officially get together. After all, she does have Alcide (Joe Manganiello)!
