Miley is finally speaking out about her super-racy VMA performance. Read on to find out why she isn’t fazed by the haters.
It’s been one week since the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, and the world is still talking about Miley Cyrus‘ jaw-dropping performance — and rightfully so! From twerking to stripping down to her bra and underwear, the 20-year-old singer put on quite the show, but one person isn’t making a big deal of it all: Miley, herself!
Miley Cyrus Speaks Out: Why I’m Not Listening To The Haters After VMA Performance
At this point, there are very few people who haven’t shared their thoughts about the super sexual performance, where Miley actually stroked Robin Thicke‘s private parts with a foam finger. While most comments have been negative, Miley says she doesn’t care because she was just being Miley.
“I don't pay attention to the negative because I've seen this play out so many times,” she told MTV in an interview. “How many times have we seen this play out in pop music? Madonna's done it. Britney [Spears has] done it. Every VMA performance, that's what you're looking for; you're wanting to make history."
Miley and Robin, 36, definitely made history — and they were apparently quite aware of it at the time.
“Me and Robin the whole time said, 'You know we're about to make history right now,'” she said in the interview. “What's amazing is I think now, we're three days later and people are still talking about it. They're over-thinking it. You're thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn't even think about it 'cause that's just me."
Celebrities Criticize Miley’s VMA Performance
Brooke Shields, who played Miley’s mother on Hannah Montana, spoke out about the performance, wondering who’s advising the “We Can’t Stop” pop star.
"I was Hannah Montana's mother!," Brooke said in an interview after the VMAs. "Where did I go wrong?" Putting jokes aside, Brooke said: "I just want to know who's advising her, and why [the racy display] is necessary… Our children can't watch that."
Kelly Clarkson even took to Twitter to comment on the performance.
“Just saw a couple performances from the VMA's last night. 2 words…. #pitchystrippers," she tweeted Aug. 26.
