Everyone seems to have an opinion about the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ casting, but screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis has now revealed what author E.L. James (and everyone else) was thinking. Who else pops into our head for the smoldering, sexy Christian Grey role first but Robert Pattinson?

Bret Easton Ellis has sounded off on the casting choices for Fifty Shades of Grey on the heels of the announcement that Charlie Hunnam is officially here to stay as Christian Grey. Bret, who recently wrote The Canyons movie, said who he and Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James chose for the coveted role of Christian.

E.L. James Thinks Robert Pattinson Should Be Christian Grey

“Talked to E.L. James at a party over the summer: her first choice for Christian was Rob Pattinson and Matt Bomer was never in the running,” Bret said on Twitter. “E.L. James and I were at Rob Pattinson’s house when she admitted that Rob was first choice for Christian. Ian Somerhalder never in running.”

Not a shock — who wouldn’t want to see Robert Pattinson in such a sexy and erotic role, especially since E.L. wrote Fifty Shades of Grey based off Twilight fan faction? Twilight fans could have finally seen a little less blood and a lot more nudity! While Bret’s statements about casting choices haven’t been confirmed as true, we aren’t surprised about E.L. wanting Rob, since Rob reportedly spoke to E.L. at the party about the role.

James Deen Should Be Christian Grey, Says Bret Easton Ellis

Bret also mentioned who he thought should have been cast as Christian. “When E.L. James asked me who I thought should be Christian I said “James Deen, of course” and then she shoved me. We were both very wasted,” he tweeted.

Since porn actor James Deen just starred in The Canyons, no wonder he’s fresh in Bret’s mind for a role that involves nudity!

Despite E.L and Bret’s conversation, Charlie as Christian will join Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey, set to be released Aug. 1, 2014. We’ll be ready!

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Are you upset that Rob isn’t playing Christian Grey?
