Despite the disappointment by some fans over the casting of Dakota and Charlie in the onscreen version of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ the producers are defending their leads to the end on Twitter! HollywoodLifers, sound off below and tell us what you think!
Whether fans like it or not, Charlie Hunman and Dakota Johnson are here to stay. The unknown actors have been cast to play the leading roles in E.L. James‘ onscreen version of her hit book trilogy: Fifty Shades of Grey. Now producers are coming out swinging against fans and critics who think more famous actors should have taken on the roles.
‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ — Producers Defends Charlie Hunman & Dakota Johnson
There were reports that possibly Armie Hammer, Ian Somerhalder or maybe in E.L. James’ wildest dreams, Robert Pattinson, would play Christian Grey. There were also whisperings that perhaps Emma Watson would take on the role of the quirky, clumsy and quiet Anastasia Steele.
There is a lot that goes into casting that isn't just looks,” Fifty Shades of Grey producer Dana Brunetti tweeted. “Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc. So if your favourite wasn't cast, then it is most likely due to something on that list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective.”
E.L. James also tweeted out to all the “haters”: “To all the supporters, lovers and haters –- thank you so much for the passion that you have for this project. You all rock. All of you.”
Producer Michael De Luca tweeted “Auditions were stunning, incredible chemistry! The duo had to do a ‘chemistry read,’ meaning a scene on video, and Charlie also had several tests with various actresses; he seemingly wanted to know who his co-star was before committing to the project.”
Also, Bret Easton Ellis, a screenwriter wrote: “Talked to E.L. James at a party over the summer: her first choice for Christian was Rob Pattinson. E.L. James and I were at Rob Pattinson’s house when she admitted that Rob was first choice for Christian. When E.L. James asked me who I thought should be Christian I said ‘James Deen, of course,’ and then she shoved me. We were both very wasted.”
The movie is expected to hit theaters in August of 2014.
