Katy Perry, 28, is due to have her third fragrance (after Purr and Meow) hit stores this August and we couldn’t be more excited! Since details about this latest scent were under wraps at the fragrance’s launch in May, she revealed everything about her new fragrance to Women’s Wear Daily on July 12. We’re absolutely loving the scent and it’s inspiration — keep reading for Katy’s explanation!
Katy Perry’s ‘Killer Queen’ — Details Revealed
First and foremost, we already knew that the name of Katy’s third fragrance is Killer Queen, but Katy explained that it’s no coincidence that the name is the same as the famous Queen song from 1974. “Freddie Mercury painted the lyrics of this woman who I wanted to be. She seemed very powerful, and she captivated a room when she walked in… I feel like I'm falling, finally, into that woman Freddie painted,” said Katy.
Katy made sure the scent evoked the image of a powerful, sophisticated woman as well: “I wanted some floral [notes], like jasmine, but I also wanted red velvet flower, which is incredible — it gives it the edge that makes it Killer Queen.” Katy then went on to add that while the scent is mature, it’s still perfect for her fans because, “It's sophisticated, but it's not alienating my main group of people.”
That being said, Katy hopes this fragrance does well and competes with the likes of Chanel and Dior. She said: “I just hope to put out a real quality project that competes, and competes beyond the celebrity fragrances.”
