Prince William didn’t let his wife’s July 13 due date get in the way of playing in a charity polo match that day and the day after, but the dad-to-be was still anxious about leaving Kate’s side!

Prince William, 31, may be expecting his very first child with wife Kate Middleton, 31, but he didn’t neglect his responsibilities as the Duke of Cambridge. As much as it pained him to have to leave his pregnant wife on her due date and the day after, William headed more than 90 miles away from London to play polo in Sydmonton, England!

Prince William Devastated About Having To Leave Pregnant Kate Middleton

Prince William may have had a charity event to attend, but he was torn about having to leave his pregnant wife in the final days of her pregnancy. A source close to the Palace told The Daily Mirror:

Initially his office said yes, then said no, and then confirmed that he would be playing. I think he was torn as, clearly, he wants to be with his wife at such an important time. But he was also too aware how much the event raises for charities he is passionate about.

But while he did have to go, he definitely took every precaution possible to ensure that he would make it to his wife’s side if she did in fact go into labor while he was gone. William had a car on standby, complete with a police escort, to make the 100 mile trip to St. Mary’s Hospital in London as quickly as possible.

Luckily for Prince William, he didn’t have to worry about missing his firstborn’s birth — Kate is still pregnant!

The Duke and Duchess on Royal Baby Watch

Her July 13 due date came and went, so Kate has opted for a new location to wait for her baby to arrive. In an attempt to escape the London heat, Kate has fled her Nottingham Cottage home on the grounds of Kensington Palace in favor of her parents’ home in Bucklebury! While the temperatures may be lower, she is also an hour away from St. Mary’s Hospital, the London hospital where she plans to deliver the royal baby and heir to the royal throne. While there is a plan in place to get Kate to the hospital if she does go into labor while surrounded by her family, we hope that she makes it back to London in time to give birth – and that Prince William makes it there too!

What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Should Prince William have left pregnant Kate Middleton’s side to play in the polo match?
