George was a ‘wannabe cop,’ who profiled Trayvon Martin, the prosecutor said in his closing argument on July 11. Do you think he’ll be found guilty and Trayvon’s parents will get the justice they’re seeking?

Trayvon Martin’s devastated parents say they want to see “justice” in the second-degree murder trial of George Zimmerman. Trayvon’s parents have not spoken publicly since the trial began, but on May 9, they said they believe their 17-year-old son was doing nothing wrong on Feb. 26, 2012, the night he was shot and killed by George, 29, who told police he acted in self-defense.

“Justice, to me, would be for the person who killed our son to be held accountable and for all the evidence to come out and for, you know, a jury to hear everything that happened that night of February 26,” Trayvon’s mother, Sybrina Fulton told NBC News on May 9.

George Zimmerman Trial: Prosecutor Gives Closing Argument

Prosecutor Bernie De la Rionda, who gave his closing argument on July 11, told the jury that it was Trayvon, not George, who had reason to be in fear on Feb. 26, 2012.

George is charged with second-degree murder in the teen’s shooting death. He claims he shot Trayvon in self-defense while on neighborhood watch duty. However, the prosecutor argues that George wrongly “profiled” Trayvon as a criminal, followed him with a gun and provoked him into a fight that resulted in the shooting death of the unarmed teenager.

“Who started this? Who followed who? Who was minding their own business? Of the two, who was the one that was armed?” he asked the jury.

“Why does this defendant, [George Zimmerman], get out of the car if he thinks Trayvon Martin is a threat to him? Because he’s got a gun! He’s got the equalizer! He’s going to take care of it! He’s a wannabe cop!” De la Rionda argued.

Murder Trial Goes To The Jury

Now that closing arguments have been presented, the murder trial goes to the jury on July 12. If convicted, George could be sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder and up to 30 years for manslaughter.
