When Kathy takes the mic, no one is safe! This time, ‘Twilight’ as a whole turned out to be her target on August 1 at the Young Hollywood Awards, and Kathy definitely didn’t hold back!
Part of being a star — or a blockbuster movie franchise, for that matter — is opening yourself up to possible ridicule. All the greats have been there – Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift — and on August 1, Kathy Griffin took a huge shot at Twilight! Can you believe it!?
Kathy Griffin Slams ‘Twilight’ At The Young Hollywood Awards
The feisty 52-year-old comedienne stepped up to the microphone to present the Internet Sensation Award to Sharknado, but before she did, she had a few kind (read: harsh) words for our favorite franchise.
Facetiously comparing Sharknado to classic flicks like Citizen Kane and To Kill A Mockingbird, Kathy then said, “Twilight? Twi-WHO!?”
Yes, yes, it was all in good fun — we doubt Robert Pattinson or Kristen Stewart will even bat an eyelash.
Everyone pretends that Sharknado is cinematic gold for laughs; we all know which movie we’d rather watch on repeat. And if by chance Kathy was actually trying to diss Twilight, we know about a bajillion people who have a bone to pick with her!
Hey ‘Twilight,’ It Could Have Been Worse
And it could’ve been way worse. Just think of some of the other stars who have been skewered during an awards show. And by other stars, we pretty much just mean Taylor Swift!
At the Golden Globes on January 13, co-host Tina Fey told Tay Tay, “You know what Taylor Swift? You stay away from Michael J. Fox’s son!”
Taylor was super hurt by the joke, telling Vanity Fair, “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.”
Then at the Billboard Awards on May 19, host Tracy Morgan (who is not a woman), referred to Taylor and said, “be careful of dating these girls, because they’ll write a song about you!”
Long story short, Twilight, at least you’re not Taylor Swift.
