How terrible! Dr. King’s family got into an auto accident while leaving a rally marking the 50th anniversary of his famous ‘I Have a Dream’ speech.

Right after Martin Luther King Jr.‘s relatives celebrated the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington on Aug. 28, a bus carrying the family was involved in a crash with another vehicle. Read on for more details about the accident.

Eyewitnesses at the scene of the accident say Dr. King’s siblings and grandchildren were on a charter bus returning from a rally at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, when a van ran a red light and forced the bus driver to slam on the breaks to avoid hitting the vehicle, according to TMZ.

Dr. King’s sister, Christine King Farris, 85, was on the bus at the time of the crash. Earlier that same day, Christine placed a commemorative wreath on the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.

Television personality Omarosa Manigault, who is a friend of the King family, was also on the bus. She reportedly hit her head on the seat in front of her, but she was not seriously injured.

“Yikes just got banged up a lil bit on bus- I am ok! #HitMyHead ouch,” she tweeted after the crash.

The bus driver was taken to a nearby hospital.

It is so sad that such a special day was marred by this unfortunate accident! We hope everyone involved is okay.
