Miley, you did you! Don’t listen to the haters. You should be proud of your VMA performance — here’s why!
Miley Cyrus‘s VMA performance on Aug. 25 has been the talk of Tinseltown ever since she walked off the stage, and rightfully so. From stripping, twerking, to stroking Robin Thicke‘s private parts with a No. 1 foam finger — there’s been a lot to talk about. However, I hope Miley isn’t taking the haters’ comments too personally because what she did was incredibly bold and brave.
Miley Cyrus: Ignore The Haters, Be Proud Of Your VMA Performance
It’s no secret that Miley, 20, has been going through a personal transformation since 2012. The former Disney star has been in the news for her “out-of-character” behavior for quite some time now, which is why her raunchy VMA performance should have come as no surprise. Hey, Miley was just being Miley.
But unfortunately, many celebrities are turning their heads to her performance and negatively criticizing it.
Brooke Shields, who played Miley’s mother in Hannah Montana, spoke out about the performance, questioning who’s advising the “We Can’t Stop” pop star.
"I was Hannah Montana's mother!," Brooke said in an interview after the VMAs. "Where did I go wrong?" Putting jokes aside, Brooke said: "I just want to know who's advising her, and why [the racy display] is necessary… Our children can't watch that."
Kelly Clarkson even took to Twitter to comment on the performance.
“Just saw a couple performances from the VMA's last night. 2 words…. #pitchystrippers," she tweeted on Aug. 26.
And it doesn’t stop there.
Bethenny Frankel tweeted, "Maybe @MileyCyrus tongue was wagging bc it's National Dog Day today!!!!" And comedian Josh Malina tweeted, "Say what you want about Miley Cyrus, but she is very disgusting.”
Fortunately for Miley, some celebs — like Selena Gomez – have stood by her side.
When asked what she thought of Miley's performance, Selena told Us Weekly, "Amazing. I thought it was awesome…I like Robin Thicke too, so I like that they [collaborated.] I thought that was good."
And I totally agree.
Sure, some of Miley’s dance moves could be called “inappropriate,” but Miley did what she wanted to do — and that’s all that matters. Miley didn’t portray a false image of herself to the world; she put on a show that she wanted to do! Her performance proved that she has enough self-confidence to do whatever she wants and not care about the controversy that surrounds it. And as long as nobody gets hurt, I don’t see a problem with that.
