George H.W. Bush Shaves Head — Supporting Toddler Battling Cancer
On July 24, former President George H.W. Bush, 89, was seen in a photo with a new hair-do, or rather, no hair at all! This new look is in honor of an adorable 2-year-old toddler named Patrick who has recently been diagnosed with leukemia, the same cancer that took his daughter nearly 60 years ago.
Patrick, who is the son of Bush’s security detail, was diagnosed with the illness several months ago and the overwhelming support he is receiving is heartwarming. Along with Bush, every member of Bush’s Secret Service detail, including Patrick’s father, Jon, shaved their heads.
The security detail has also organized an inaugural Patrick’s Pals Motorcycle Benefit Run on August 10. The event, which will take place in Kennebunkport, Maine, will involve a 50-mile motorcycle ride through the countryside followed by a lunch and silent auction to raise funds for Patrick’s treatments.
Positive Reactions To Bush’s Decision To Shave His Head
Bush’s act of kindness did not go without notice.
Former President Bill Clinton tweeted, “41, you look great. Love what you’re doing.”
Earlier that day, President Obama‘s press secretary, Jay Carney, tweeted, “Noted [with] great admiration.”
On July 25, Bush’s granddaughter, Jenna Bush Hager, spoke about her grandfather on TODAY.
“This doesn't surprise me. He is the cutest man in the entire world. 89 years old – he had great hair! Brown hair! As his granddaughter, I feel especially lucky. I will rub his bald head for good luck!”
The support behind Patrick is heartwarming and our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family!
