Some hosts get a little bitter when their guests don’t show up! After Daft Punk canceled their appearance on The Colbert Report at the last minute, Stephen threw some major shade!

Some may say that Stephen Colbert was Daft “Punk‘d” on The Colbert Report on August 6, when the band canceled their appearance at the very last minute.

Stephen Colbert Disses Daft Punk

Apparently, Stephen didn’t “Get Lucky.” During his late-night show, Stephen kicked off “Stephest Colbchella ’013,” which was supposed to feature Daft Punk’s ”Get Lucky.”

“That’s right folks, French, electric pop megastars Daft Punk, the artists behind the hit ‘Get Lucky,’ on The Colbert Show … was something that was going to happen when we made this graphic,” Stephen said on his Comedy Central show after showing the “Stephest Colbchella” graphic that read “with special guests Daft Punk.”

“Unfortunately, Daft Punk is  not here,” he said. ”We booked Click and Clack over here about a month ago. Apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards — spoiler alert! Don’t tell anyone, because fun fact: No one told me until two hours ago.”

While Comedy Central and MTV are both owned by Viacom, Stephen was told by Viacom’s Van Toffler that MTV had control over any appearances Daft Punk would be doing before the VMAs on August 25.

“Daft Punk says nothing because they don’t talk,” Stephen joked. “Their handlers say they never promised MTV anything, so here’s the deal. Hyundai gave me a lot of money — a big check. Which, funny story, I cashed. And in return, I promised them the song of the summer!”

Stephen Colbert & Celeb Friends Dance To ‘Get Lucky’

Since Daft Punk couldn’t make their appearance, Stephen took it upon himself to perform the hit song!

Taking a page from Ellen DeGeneres‘ book, he decided to throw a dance party and he wasn’t alone!

So, the audience got lucky with a lip-syncing rendition and a great deal of dancing from Stephen, and some of his closest friends — you know, Hugh LaurieJeff Bridges, and Jimmy Fallon.

Some of his other famous friends even speared out of no where: The RockettesJohn Stewart, and Matt Damon to name a few. Even Jobs star Ashton Kutcher showed up on the show to let him know he didn’t get Punk’d, he got “f–k’d!”

At least the crowd (and Hyundai) still got their song of the summer! Do you think it was wrong for Daft Punk to drop out last-minute? Or did Stephen Colbert cross the line with his disses? Let us know!
