Are they or aren’t they? One week after Ellie was romantically linked to One Direction-er Niall Horan, she was seen holding hands and cuddling up to Ed at the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 25. Are they dating?
Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding have been friends for quite some time, but their very obvious PDA at the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 25 leads us to believe they may be more than friends.

Ed, 22, and Ellie were seen holding hands while they sat together in the audience. At one point, Ed placed his hand on Ellie’s thigh. Oh la la!
However, once the two singers were spotted, they tried shrugging it off and playfully hugged each other.
“I love that holding hands with my friends means we're an item. In that case I am in many relationships. Lover not a hater. #whatthef**k,” Ellie later wrote on Twitter, as she tried dispelling any romance rumors.
Ellie failed to mention the moment Ed put his hand on her thigh, though. Is that a sign of friendship, too?
She added “Amazing night of performances with good friends. Representing GB. Love you all!”

We have to admit that this sign of affection is pretty strange, considering that Ellie, 26, was reportedly spotted kissing Niall Horan at the V Festival during a Kings of Leon set.
