This is amazing! Less than 24 hours after horrifically breaking his leg in more than one place, the Louisville basketball player is on his feet.
Right now, Kevin Ware is the strongest person on Earth. Watching his gruesome injury last night, Mar. 31, we were questioning whether he’d even be able to walk again. But just one day later, he’s out of his hospital bed, walking around his room on crutches.
Kevin Ware Rehabs On Crutches After Horrible Leg Break
Kenny Klein, the senior associate athletic director for media relations for the Louisville Cardinals, posted a picture on Twitter of Kevin standing on crutches, wearing a Louisville Final Four hat.
This picture is amazing. We can’t believe Kevin’s on his feet just a day after suffering probably the worst injury ever shown on national television. His leg snapped in two places and his bone was protruding six inches out of his skin. Just seeing the injury made us feel like we could never walk again. But Kevin is much stronger than us — after undergoing emergency surgery, Kevin looks happy and on his way to recovery.
Kevin Ware’s Injury: Louisville Rep Provides More Details
Kenny Klein filled us in on details of Kevin’s surgery, as well as when he plans to get out of the hospital. “Ware had the bone re-set, the wound from the injury closed and a rod inserted in his right tibia during approximately two hours of surgery,” Kenny tweeted. Two hours of surgery, getting a rod inserted into his leg, and Kevin’s already standing.
Kevin is acting like he never even suffered this horrific injury. He’s already thinking about rejoining the team! “Ware will remain in Indy until at least Tuesday, when he’s hopeful to return to Louisville and then join the Cards as they travel to Atlanta.”
Truly amazing. And if Kevin manages to travel with the team to the Final Four in Atlanta, the other three teams better watch out. As he was being stretchered off the court, Kevin continued to urge his team to “win the game.” They did — dominating the second half and winning by over 20 points. Kevin’s unrelenting strength is an inspiration to his teammates. And to us!
