After Kevin broke his leg in two places during the March 31 Louisville-Duke basketball game, his girlfriend rushed to his side and rode in the ambulance with him.
While Kevin Ware’s mother, Lisa Junior, watched her son’s gruesome injury from home, the basketball player’s girlfriend was thankfully in the stands and able rush to Kevin’s side.

“When I saw the replay,” Lisa said to Sports Illustrated, “I lost it.”
Unfortunately, Lisa could not run to her son’s side. When CBS cut to commercial, the vision of her son’s leg bone sticking out of his flesh stuck in her mind. Luckily, Kevin had another special lady to rush to his aide!
Kevin Ware’s Girlfriend Rode In Ambulance After Leg Injury
Kevin’s girlfriend was with him in the ambulance as he was taken from the arena. As Kevin headed to surgery around 8 PM on March 31, he called his mom to say, "Calm down, mom. I'm okay."
Kevin may have a long road to recovery ahead of him, but he’s already in good spirits post-surgery, news that Lisa and Kevin’s girlfriend were surely happy to hear!
A picture posted on Kevin's Facebook fanpage shows the injured basketball star laying in his hospital bed, holding his team's Final Four trophy — they won the March 31 game despite his injury. "Surgery went well, kevin holds the trophy," the caption said.
